Kate is an outstanding copy chief. She approaches copy editing as a writer, enriching the text while correcting it. In addition, she understands time management, production schedules and the need to hustle without sacrificing good work. As copy chief of MJ, Kate worked closely with me to ensure high-quality work under difficult circumstances. We didn't have any mistakes under her tenure, a feat that makes me want to say it was a miracle, but in reality it was due to Kate's expertise.

More than a highly skilled, eagle-eyed copy editor, Kate is also a very capable, very fair manager who takes good care of her people. As copy chief of Men's Journal, a magazine with a difficult closing schedule, she frequently checked in with me, a regular freelancer, to ensure that I was happy and took immediate measures to address any concerns/requests I had. It was truly a pleasure working with her. --Laura Siciliano-Rosen, cofounder of Eat Your World

Kate consistently surpasses my expectations, both in terms of returning copy with lightning speed (really!) and maintaining the perfect balance between correcting style and grammar and maintaining a writer's voice. Hers is truly a deft hand; thoughtful and considerate, her comments and suggestions improve each and every article she touches. I have come to rely (utterly) on her judgment. My now quite common refrain: Ask Kate. --Judy Grover, editor in chief, New Jersey Family

Kate Crane is quite simply an exemplary copy editor. She has the rare gift of being able to fix a writer's prose (or an editor's edit) without changing its tone; when the writing has no tone, she has great ideas about how to inject one. She also has the right mix of suavity and steel with which to deal with temperamental wordsmiths. I worked with her on dozens of feature-length magazine stories at SmartMoney, and I recommend her VERY highly.
--Matt Heimer, editor, SmartMoney.com An outstanding copy editor and a pleasure to work with. During the time Kate worked for me at Radar, she happily accepted any and all responsibilites I asked her to take on, and the quality of the department's work improved more or less immediately. She is also a team player and is completely reliable. And extremely hardworking. I would recommend her highly for pretty much anything.

Kate and I worked very closely together on my Academy Award–nominated documentary film The Weather Underground for almost a year as the film screened in theaters around the country. During this time, I was enormously impressed with Kate. The film did extremely well for an independent documentary about history and politics. I believe very strongly that a good portion of the film's success came from Kate's skills and determination. She was extremely intelligent about the film's audiences and how to reach them in effective and cost-efficient manners. She almost seems to have an innate sense for outreach and media relations. Also, once Kate has set her mind on something she works extremely diligently. In sum, Kate is fantastic at promoting things—and I've wholeheartedly recommended her to other filmmakers on numerous occasions.

Kate is a hawk-eyed copy editor who can spot a snafu from 30,000 feet--and tweak a phrase to perfectly amplify meaning—as well as a talented writer/editor whose copy exudes intelligence and humor. Her kindness and formidable work ethic make her a joy to work with. --Missy Sullivan, news editor, Personal Journal, The Wall Street Journal
